Description

ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy) is a powerful analytical technique widely used for trace and ultra-trace elemental analysis in environmental, industrial, geological, agricultural, and nuclear research laboratories. It combines plasma excitation technology with optical emission spectroscopy to provide rapid, accurate, and multi-element detection across a broad concentration range.

In this technique, samples are introduced into a high-temperature argon plasma (6,000–10,000 K) where elements are atomized and excited. Each element emits light at characteristic wavelengths, which are detected and quantified, enabling simultaneous analysis of multiple metals and non-metals with high precision and low detection limits (ppb to ppm range).

Applications of ICP-OES include:

Environmental monitoring: Analysis of trace metals in water, wastewater, soil, and air particulates.

Nuclear industry: Quantification of radioactive isotopes and fission products in fuel cycle studies.

Agriculture & food safety: Determining essential and toxic elements in crops, fertilizers, and food products.

Industrial quality control: Testing metals, alloys, and chemicals for purity and contamination.

Geochemistry & mining: Elemental profiling of rocks, ores, and sediments.

Compared to traditional methods like AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy), ICP-OES offers higher throughput, better sensitivity, and multi-element capability, making it indispensable for modern elemental analysis and compliance with international standards (ISO, EPA, ASTM).

Sample Collection Information
  • Volume Required:

  • Nature of Sample: Fecal, Urine, Sputum, Powder, Liquid

  • Packaging Instructions: For Liquid samples, per analysis, measure 5ml
Measure 2grams per analysis for solid samples
Liquid samples should be sent in sample bottles, pet bottles, or any air-tight container.
Solid samples should be sent in zip lock bags, sample bottles, or any air-tight container.
Samples should be labeled legibly with paper tape, marker, or writing pen.
Labels should be short and precise (not more than 3 words).
All samples must be strapped together and secured in a bag prior to transport.
Write the Following on the Bag, or Envelope “Allschoolabs Analysis – Receiver: Madison, 08163383206” then add the address of whichever collection center you are sending to.
