The Direct Bilirubin serum test measures the conjugated form of bilirubin in the blood, which is processed by the liver and excreted in bile. Elevated direct bilirubin levels are commonly associated with hepatobiliary conditions such as bile duct obstruction, cholestasis, or hepatic injury due to hepatitis or cirrhosis. This test is often performed alongside indirect and total bilirubin measurements to determine the type and cause of jaundice and to assess overall liver function.
