2 Hours Post Prandial (2HPP)
"2 Hours Post Prandial" refers to a blood glucose test that is conducted exactly two hours after eating a meal, usually a standard one. It is used primarily to assess how the body handles glucose and to detect abnormalities in blood sugar regulation.
Purpose:
To evaluate blood glucose control in individuals with diabetes.
To help diagnose diabetes or prediabetes.
To monitor the effectiveness of treatment in diabetic patients.
Normal Ranges (may vary slightly by lab):
Below 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L): Normal
140–199 mg/dL (7.8–11.0 mmol/L): Prediabetes (Impaired Glucose Tolerance)
200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher: Indicative of Diabetes Mellitus
Test Procedure:
Patient consumes a regular meal.
Blood sample is taken exactly 2 hours after the first bite of the meal.
Blood glucose level is measured from the sample.
Clinical Relevance:
The test reflects the body’s ability to manage post-meal glucose spikes.
Especially useful in identifying Type 2 Diabetes and gestational diabetes.
It complements other tests like Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) and HbA1c.
